

We discovered that at low tide, there are beds of sand dollars here in the Sound. All the stony-looking bits are sand dollars.


When they're alive they're covered with a sort of spiny skin. The spines move, allowing the sand dollar to move.

Here's a shot with my shadow included, for perspective.

When the water recedes, they dig into the sand for protection.
