Vashon-Maury Island

Parker went hiking on Mt. Rainier with his small group on Saturday.  That left JT and me with a day to ourselves, so we headed off to Vashon-Maury Island.

 Here is the ferry landing at Pt. Defiance.

 We drove until we found a peaceful park on Quartermaster Harbor, the inlet between the two islands.  (They used to be separate islands but are now attached by an isthmus built by the Army Corps of Engineers.)

 The original Seattle's Best Roasterie was on Vashon Island.  Here's an old cold case that reminds me of Trinity.

 We took the ferry from the north end of Vashon, out to Southworth on the Peninsula.  This is what happens to the water when a ferry backs and turns.

 Blake Island, a state park accessibly only by boat.

 We drove home through Gig Harbor and stopped at Sweet Melissa's, a cupcakerie.

 Not red velvet--I hate eating red food coloring--this cake is colored by raspberries expressed in the bakery.
