Emmy was my best friend for seventeen years. Her kidneys had been failing for several years, and for the last year she went in twice a week for fluids. Still, she was doing very well. But one Sunday afternoon she got an excruciatingly painful blood clot in her hind leg. The only thing we could do to help her was put her to sleep, one of the hardest things I've ever done.
This is my last photo of Em, taken just two days before she died. She was blind but otherwise looked as beautiful as she ever did.
She was my friend through many moves and years of illness. More than just a pet, she was my constant companion.
Oh, those big pink ears!
She had the sweetest pink heart-shaped nose.
